MEC releases preseason golf polls

D&E men projected fourth, women to tie for sixth in standings

BRIDGEPORT — Featuring a new-look roster that consists of six freshmen, the Davis & Elkins men’s golf team was selected fourth in the MEC preseason poll released on Thursday afternoon.

The University of Charleston, which earned nine first-place votes, was picked to win its third straight league crown this fall.

West Liberty was picked second in the poll with 70 points and one first-place vote, while Concord (62) came in just ahead of D&E (53) in third.

Fairmont State (52) and West Virginia Wesleyan (45) followed in fifth and sixth place, respectively, while Urbana (32), Glenville State (24), Notre Dame (Ohio) (23) and West Virginia State (10) rounded out the poll.

Senators coach J.D. Lamm will look to guide a young roster up the league standings in advance of the MEC Championships on Oct. 7-9 in Charleston. Sophomore Patrick Smith is the lone returner on the men’s side and looks to take a step forward in 2019.

Among the newcomers are freshmen Sean Addie, Jack Coleman, Jack Harlen-Robertson, Jordan Hyland, Evan Lewis and Evan Merlo. The Senators finished second among 13 schools last season in the MEC Spring Invitational hosted by Urbana University.

D&E opens the 2019 season at the Glade Springs Invite, hosted by Charleston, Sept. 14-16 at Glade Springs Resort.
