NWTF to sponsor calling contest

The Tygart Valley Chapter of National Wild Turkey Federation once again will sponsor the Wayne Williams Memorial Youth Turkey Calling Contest on March 23.

The event will take place at the Elkins High School Auditorium during the Randolph County Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs Expo, and it also will include owl hooting.

Chapter members encourage all youth to participate in this contest and start practicing their skills at calling. Participants can bring their own calls, although calls will be available at the event.

Registration will begin at noon, with the contest starting at 1 p.m. This free event is open to children ages 8 to 17 years old. Prizes will be awarded to the top four finishers. Also, helping to sponsor the event are Mrs. Wayne Williams, the Wayne Williams family, Dave Shaffer/Uncle Dave’s Custom Made Turkey Calls, Judy Fence Craft, Jim Pack and Clyde Campbell. Some of Wayne Williams’ hunting buddies – Regis Fererre, Denny Burns, representing Burns Production, and Brett Kinney – have made donations in the past and will attend again this year.
