CEOS club hosts gathering

The Pringle Tree CEOS Club met Feb. 6 for its regular monthly meeting, which was held at the home of Sherry Gibbs in Hodgesville.

Anne Sterneman led a prayer of blessing. A delicious luncheon with a Valentine theme was served by Sherry, consisting of three different kinds of quiche and assorted desserts. Each member was presented a heart lollipop and chocolate rose.

In the absence of Julia Marple, the meeting was called to order by Jeanie Claypool. The Pledge of Allegiance and flag salute were led by Rosemary Simons. Eight members answered the roll call given by recording secretary Barbara Byrd.

The minutes of the last meeting were presented by the secretary and approved as read. Patty Simons gave the treasurer’s report, which was also approved. Anne Sterneman was in charge of devotions and did a scripture reading from John 15:12-13, a reading “The Story of Valentine’s Day,” then ended with a prayer. Gibbs presented an informative lesson, “Would You Like to be Happier?” Members discussed things they do when they’re having upsetting thoughts and feelings and what helps them to feel happier.

Gibbs reported a flag was given to the Warren District Fire Department. Sterneman will check on hats and gloves to be purchased while they are on sale.

Members were reminded about providing lunch for the Parish House on March 1.

Byrd reported she had attended the County Council and Advisory Board meeting held Jan. 10 at the West Virginia University Extension Office and also attended the West Virginia Strawberry Festival committee meeting and Spring Achievement committee meeting held on Jan. 11 at the Extension Office conference room. Claypool announced that Learn ‘N Return for Lessons in April, May and June was held on Feb. 11.

The County Spring Achievement and Awards Banquet to be held on April 8 was discussed. The club will provide a gift for the judges. Pringle Tree will be in charge of decorating the tables. Barbara Harvey volunteered to make the club poster.

Members attending were Anne Sterneman, Rosemary Simons, Patricia Simons, Iris McLain, Barbara Harvey, Sherry Gibbs, Betty Jean Claypool and Barbara Byrd.
