Davis Health System Healthy Living Expo set

The Annual Davis Health System (DHS) Healthy Living Expo will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at the McDonnell Center on the campus of Davis & Elkins College. It offers low cost blood tests, free preventative screenings and other tests.

“The expo promotes good health awareness and encourages participants to have an active role in their own health by taking advantage of the free and low cost screenings,” said Marjory Moses, DHS Director of Community Wellness. The expo is open to all residents and targets individuals of all ages.

Multi-phasic blood panels begin at $30 and will be offered from 7 to 10 a.m. The special health fair package includes CBC, chemistry panel and lipids: HDL and LDL cholesterol plus triglycerides. Other tests available at discounted prices include thyroid, PSA (prostate), Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy, HGB A1C (diabetes), C-Reactive Protein (CRP) heart disease risk, CRP inflammatory and blood type.

Pre-registration for the multi-phasic blood tests is not required; however, individuals should fast for 12 hours before getting blood tests to ensure the most accurate results. Payment may be made at the time of the test by check or cash.

“Better health for families and individuals is an important part of the Davis Health System mission,” said DHS CEO Mark Doak. “The expo is an opportunity for residents to better understand the status of their current health, and for us to provide education on the wide range of DHS and community health care resources available to them.”

Free screenings include blood pressure, blood glucose, balance, clinical breast exams, posture, hemoccult, skin damage, pulse oxygen and more.

Participation by a number of community and social service groups enhance the expo by bringing a host of educational resources together in one location. Residents can learn about massage therapy, hospice, nutrition, personal and family health, senior services, fitness classes and other health-related programs available in the area.

Davis Health System partners with Davis & Elkins College and a number of community organizations to offer this expo to area residents.
