Library Commission to present job-search seminars in April

In November 2012, the Community Connect Foundation, in partnership with the West Virginia Library Commission and the West Virginia Association of Counties, was awarded a grant from the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey to purchase e-books for the WV-READS Library eBook Consortia and conduct a series of Job and Career Development seminars and library membership drives in public libraries in Cabell, Harrison, Mercer, Greenbrier, Jackson, Mason, Marshall, Wood, Raleigh, Ritchie and Upshur counties.

As part of this grant, the Community Connect Foundation has scheduled the following seminars at Upshur County Library on Tennerton Road in Buckhannon:

Resume Writing, set for 11 a.m. to noon on April 29:

The Community Connect Foundation will present a one-hour course on how to develop, format and draft a professional resume. In addition to presenting this information, volunteers will be on hand to review resumes and cover letters of attendees and offer up suggestions for improvement. Please bring a copy of your resume and cover letters to this event so that we can help you refine them. Supplemental information about this seminar will be available through the Learning Express Library and the e-Books available through the WV READS E-Book consortium, both of which are free to participants who have an active local library card.

Interview Skills, set for 2 to 3 p.m. April 29. The Community Connect Foundation will conduct a one-hour course on how to prepare for and successfully sell yourself in a job interview. In addition to presenting this information, volunteers will be on hand to answer specific questions as well as practice the skills covered in the course. Supplemental information about this seminar will be available through the Learning Express Library and the e-Books available through the WV READS E-Book consortium, both of which are free to participants who have an active local library card.

Internet Use, set for 11 a.m. to noon April 30:

The Community Connect Foundation will conduct a one-hour course on the basics of Internet use as well how to access online resources available through the WV Learning Express Library Portal. In addition to presenting this information, volunteers will be on hand to provide specific direction to attendees who want to practice the skills covered in the course on library computers. Supplemental information about this seminar will be available through the Learning Express Library and the e-Books available through the WV READS E-Book consortium, both of which are free to participants who have an active local library card.

Introduction to Website Design, set for 2 to 3 p.m. April 30. The Community Connect Foundation will conduct a one-hour course on the basics of website design and an introduction to online tools that will allow attendees to easily create a free website.

In addition to presenting this information, volunteers will be on hand to provide specific direction to attendees who want to practice the skills covered in the course on library computers.
