Program’s signup closes this week

Upshur County farmers who suffered damages from Superstorm Sandy are reminded that Thursday is the last day to file for cost-share assistance, said Steven C. Nestor, county executive director for the local Farm Service Agency.

The Emergency Conservation Program can provide 75 percent cost assistance to remove debris from commercial agricultural lands. Hurricane Sandy’s heavy snow in October toppled trees and broke off limbs, causing significant damages to many area farms, explained the local FSA official.

The FSA County Committee encourages all interested producers to contact the local FSA Office for more information. The local office is located off the Grass Run road exit U.S. 33 east at 24 Gateway Drive, Weston, and the telephone number is 304-269-8431, ext. 2.
