Upshur archers place in state competition
The archery clubs at two Upshur County schools placed in the West Virginia Archery in the Schools state tournament.
Upshur County Superintendent of Schools Scott Lampinen, who spoke at this week’s school board meeting, said the sixth-grade team finished third place in the state, the seventh-/eighth-grade team also took third place in the state, and the high school team finished in fourth place in the state competition, which took place Saturday.
Three students won individual awards. Sixth-grader Shawna Morgan placed first in the state in individual awards. David Gillum, a seventh-/eighth-grade team member, placed fourth in the state. Sixth-grader Kiara Williams also placed fourth in the state.
Many students from Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School and Buckhannon-Upshur High School participate in the archery club. The students will represent their state and county at a national competition.
