Wesleyan to offer tax credits

West Virginia Wesleyan College has thousands of dollars remaining in available West Virginia tax credits through the Neighborhood Investment Program.

The college was awarded $55,700 in tax credits for its West Virginia Opportunity Scholarship Program last fall. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students attending Wesleyan from Barbour, Braxton, Fayette, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Lewis, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Randolph, Tucker, Upshur and Webster counties who are at or below 125 percent of the federal poverty level.

Bob Skinner, vice president for advancement, said individuals who make a donation of $500 or more to this program can be entitled to both a federal tax charitable deduction and West Virginia tax credits.

Tax credits are awarded at a rate of 50 percent. A $1,000 donation, for example, will result in tax credits of $500. The deadline to reserve tax credits is Friday.
