College receives donation
West Virginia Wesleyan College has received a second $50,000 gift from Wade F. Sperry, a 1969 graduate, for a scholarship in memory of his brother, Walter C. Sperry.
The Sperry Scholarship, established earlier this year, will be awarded annually to one or more Wesleyan students with a preference given to students with physical or learning disabilities.
“We are extremely grateful to Mr. Sperry for his wonderful generosity,” stated Bob Skinner, vice president for advancement. “His two $50,000 gifts for the Sperry Scholarship will impact many future Wesleyan students. We appreciate his vision and desire to help the college in this special way.”
West Virginia Wesleyan is a private residential college that offers 44 undergraduate majors, 34 minors, and graduate programs in athletic training, business administration, education, English creative writing and nursing.
Wesleyan is a first-tier college in the 2013 U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges guide and is the only West Virginia college or university to be listed in the publication’s “Great Schools at Great Prices” category.
