D&E students attend national convention
Four Davis & Elkins College students and their advisor learned about what’s coming up for campus entertainment during the national conference of the National Association for Campus Activities this spring.
Attending the conference in Nashville, Tenn., were the executive board of the D&E Campus Activities Board: Sara Hill, president, a senior from Charleston; Shane Jones, vice president, a junior from Beverly and Montrose; Jenna Hanifan, secretary, a senior from Elkins; Corey Kaechele, first representative, a sophomore from Bethel, Conn.; and Vice President for Student Affairs Scott Goddard, who serves as CAB advisor.
During the NACA conference, students experienced the talent of up-and-coming musicians, comedians, magicians and speakers. They also had a chance to attend the Market Place and meet with promotion and vendor companies they work with on a yearly basis.
“From start to finish, the opportunities of meeting agents, musicians and upcoming popular acts allowed me to widen my horizon on ideas for events we could hold on our campus,” Jones said.
The students also attended educational sessions on pursuing careers in higher education and student affairs.
The student-run Davis & Elkins College Campus Activities Board brings national music, comedy and other events, including Comedy Caravan, Mission IMPROVable and Big Daddy Weave, to campus weekly during the academic year. Among some of the recent activities are Campus Fear Factor, D&E Idol and the Ultimate Blowout Show for Students. The group also organizes the annual two-day Deja vu Music Festival, which this year featured Sean Kingston and Justin Moore.
The National Association for Campus Activities offers a wide variety of events, educational institutes, publications and networking opportunities for colleges and universities. The organization has more than 950 college and university members and 500-plus associate members who represent artists, lecturers and performers.
