Woman earns Community Service Award

Linda Wilfong was presented the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce 2012 Community Service Award by Chamber President Jeff Rogers during the chamber’s recent annual banquet meeting at Alderson-Broaddus College.

The recipients of the award are nominated and voted upon by the full membership and selected for their exemplary service to the community.

Wilfong possesses many virtues, Rogers said, the most apparent being her honesty, integrity, unselfishness and dedication to community service during the past 20 years. Wilfong was elected to the Barbour County Fair Board in 1999, served as chairperson of the parade committee for 11 years and has worked with the queen’s committee, governing and bylaws committee, awards committee and publicity committee. She organized the purchase of trophies and awards and was named Fair Board Member of the Year.

“Wilfong also has been involved with the Blue and Gray Reunion since its inception,” Rogers said. “She was secretary of the reunion committee for seven years and has served as the head of various other committees. She is also a member of the board of directors of the Barbour County Museum, volunteering her tine to host visitors and to provide information about the history of the museum and the community. She is a member of the Barbour County Historical Society and is committed to preserving local history and heritage.”
