MSFF maids of honor announced

Mountain State Forest Festival Director General Cricket Leary has announced the appointments of Amber Marie Karlen and Kara LeeAnne Parrack as maids of honor to Queen Silvia LXXVII. Karlen and Parrack are bestowed with the highest Randolph County honors in the Forest Festival’s 77th Royal Court.

Nineteen-year-old Karlen will be a sophomore at West Virginia University in the fall and is a 2012 graduate of Elkins High School. She is the daughter of Mike and Susan Karlen of Elkins and the granddaughter of Jim and Rose Snodgrass of Williamstown, and Glen and Sandy Karlen of Elkins.

She has one sister, Jima. Karlen was a jester in the 2007 Forest Festival and her father served as director general of the 2012 festival.

At EHS, she was a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes as well as serving as a homecoming princess her junior and senior years. She was a three-year varsity member of the soccer team and was named NCAC Conference honorable mention.

Karlen, a dean’s list scholar, received the Shenandoah scholarship at WVU where she is enrolled in the School of Radiology. She attends the Alliance Community Fellowship Church.

Parrack, 19, is the daughter of Ryan and Jodie Parrack of Beverly. She is the granddaughter of Larry and Evelyn Snyder of Elkins and Jon and Twilda Parrack of Elkins.

Parrack was a flower girl in the 2002 Forest Festival. In addition, her father served as a train bearer in the 1982 Forest Festival and her mother was a queen’s department assistant in 2010 and 2011. Her grandmother, Twilda, served in that same capacity in 1986.

Parrack is a 2012 graduate of Elkins High School and will be a sophomore at Davis & Elkins College in the fall. At EHS, she was a member of National Honor Society, prom council, Key Club, student council, and International Thespian Honor Society.

A dean’s list and PROMISE scholar at D&E, Parrack was awarded a Highland Scholarship and is pursuing a major in psychology and human services with a minor in education. She is a member of the D&E concert choir and she attends the Landmark Baptist Church, where she is also a member of the choir.
