Strawberry Festival award winners announced
Officials with the West Virginia Strawberry Festival announced the award winners for the Grand Feature and Junior Royalty parades.
In the Grand Feature Parade, Morgantown took top honors in the Class AAA division, followed by Cabell Midland. Parkersburg took first place in Class AA, followed by Elkins and Akron. Braxton County was the top band in Class A, followed by Duke Ellington and Lewis County.
The top overall West Virginia bands were Morgantown, Cabell Midland and Parkersburg.
Parkersburg took first place in the Drum Major category, followed by Morgantown and Duke Ellington. Cabell Midland had the top majorettes, while Lewis County and Duke Ellington finished in second and third respectively. Cabell Midland also had the top flag unit, followed by Braxton County and Akron.
The top musical marching unit went to the American Originals Fife and Drum, followed by the United Alumni Drum and Bugle Corp and the D&E Highlanders.
The top drum corps were Dynamic Mention and Bonnie Brae. The Marching Elites took top honors in the Precision Drill category, followed by Mountaineer Challenge Academy. South Philly was the winning unit in the Drill with equipment division, followed by One Wheelers.
Marion County took top honors among Twirling Groups, followed by Upshur and Stockert. Flat Cal Pachame was named the top dance troupe, followed by the Tumblers and Dazzling Diamonds. The Wacky Wheeler was honored as the best Novelty Unit, followed by the Jolly Giant and Burger Bear.
In the Junior Royalty Parade, Central Preston was honored as the top middle school band and for having the best drum major. Harman, which finished second in the middle school band group, was honored for having the best majorettes, and it finished second in the drum major honors.
Among Boy Scout units, Pack 128 took top honors, followed by Pack 104 and 100. Girl Scout troop 5304 won its division, finishing tied for second were troops 5017, 5014 and 4119. Troop 8209 took third.
The Upshur County Friends of Rachel won first place in the Walking Unit division, followed by the Special Olympics and the Rainbow Girls. The Tallmansville Racers took first place among 4-H clubs, followed by the Hinkle Ridge Coyotes.
The Marion County Rockettes won first place in the large twirling groups category, while the Golden Angels finished second and the Barbour County Strutters took third. In the small twirling group division, Sparkling Diva took first place, and the Nicholas County Blue Belles and the Ravenettes finished second and third respectively.
The Tallmansville Racers also took top honors with its float, followed by the Hinkle Ridge Coyotes and the Cornerstone Community.
The Good Hope Tabernacle was awarded top honors in the Church Group division, followed by the First United Methodist Church and the Cornerstone Community.
The West Virginia Wildlife Center won the Costume Character honor, followed by Fuzzy & Stubbles and Coventry Cares.
