Dailey man commissioned as 2nd lieutenant

Joseph Daniel Thornhill, formerly of Dailey, was recently commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He completed a four-year Army ROTC program at Elizabeth City State University, Elizabeth City, N.C., where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.

He is currently stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord near Tacoma, Wash., where is serving as a cadre member at Warrior Forge. In September 2013, he will begin the engineer basic officer leadership course at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Upon completion of his training at Fort Leonard Wood, he will be assigned to Fort Stewart, Ga. in March 2014.

Joseph is the son of Dan and Terry Thornhill, currently of Elkins. He is the brother of Lindsay (Jason) Hedrick and Andrea Thornhilll.

He is the grandson of Willa Jean Thornhill and the late Charles Thornhill Jr. of Montrose, and the late Faye Rosencrance and the late Bernard Collett of Dailey.
