Dodgeball tournament to benefit Relay

The Buckhannon Fitness Center will be hosting the first-ever Relay for Life Dodging Cancer Dodgeball Tournament at the Buckhannon Armory at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12.

The Buckhannon Fitness Center is excited to have teamed up with Relay for Life in its fight against cancer. By teaming up with Relay, the BFC feels it can now help play a part in finding a cure and helping to reduce the risk factors of some cancers.

While it’s important to acknowledge that not all cancers can be prevented, risk factors for some cancers can be reduced through positive lifestyle changes in nutrition and exercise. The BFC also believes that staying healthy and positive through proper nutrition and exercise throughout a person’s life provides a better position from which to fight cancer should they, or someone they love, have to fight that battle.

The Buckhannon Fitness Center is a family fitness facility, so its staff is also excited to promote physical activity, family fun, assist in making Buckhannon a fitter community while also helping an awesome cause – Relay for Life – in the process.

The tournament will have two divisions of six-to-eight player teams; an open class and a family class. The open division will be comprised of teams with members ages 14 and older. The open division will have no male/female composition requirement. Teams can be all-male, all-female or co-ed.

The family division will be comprised of three types of teams: children ages 9 to 13, all-female teams ages 9 and up; and family teams comprised of two adults and four or more children ages 9 to 13.

The tournament will be timed matches in a double elimination tournament. The winner will have their team’s name on the official trophy that will be displayed prominently at the BFC. Also, there will be prizes for the best team uniforms. Teams are encouraged to be creative in choosing their team names and uniforms.

Teams may register at or stop by the BFC in the Wendling’s plaza on Route 20.
