Forensic Mondays continues July15
Forensic Mondays will continue Monday, July 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion building in Buckhannon. There will be a special presentation by Soraya McClung, the director of the West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory.
McClung graduated from Claude Bernard University in Lyon, France with the equivalent of a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry in 1986. After that, she graduated from Aix-Marseille University with the equivalent of a master’s degree in biochemistry with a minor in microbiology in 1988.
Mrs. McClung then obtained a master’s degree in forensic science from Marshall University in 1998. She has been employed with the W.Va. State Police Laboratory since 1990, first as a serologist, from 1990 to 1992, then as a DNA analyst until 1999.
Before her appointment as laboratory director, she was the DNA technical leader and the quality assurance manager.
McClung sits on the board of the American Society Crime Laboratory Directors and is the chair of the International Liaisons Committee for ASCLD. McClung also sits on the board of the International Forensic Strategic Alliance.
McClung is an ISO 17025 certified assessor for the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/ Laboratory Accreditation Board. She has assessed multiple laboratories both in the United States and Canada.
McClung is a certified DNA auditor and has served both as a technical and lead auditor in multiple DNA assessment of public and private forensic laboratories in the U.S.
