Martin Street Fair offers good fun for a good reason
As the newest addition to the growing list of Independence Day activities in and around Elkins, the Martin Street Fair will provide loads of fun with a lot of heart.
The two-day event, presented by the Davis Health System Foundation’s Special Projects Committee, includes live music, arts and crafts, kids activities, food vendors and numerous other opportunities for family-oriented fun. It all begins at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, running through the fireworks at dusk, then resumes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 6.
All the activities are free and include the opportunity to get more information about projects coordinated by the Davis Health System Foundation. Activities are centered on Martin Street in Elkins’ Historic Railyard.
“This first-time event is a great complement to ON TRAC’s First Friday, the Mountain State Street Machines Car Show, Friday night fireworks and other activities that will take place around our nation’s birthday and the state’s 150th anniversary celebrations,” said Bob Dunkerley, a member of the Davis Health System Foundation’s Board of Directors and chairman of the event. “We also will have the opportunity to pause and consider how fortunate we are to have recovered from the derecho that affected so many in our state just one year ago.”
One goal of the Martin Street Fair is to increase awareness of the foundation’s mission. At the same time, it will highlight many of the region’s talented musicians, artists and performers.
Live music begins at 11:15 a.m. Friday and runs from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Performers include Seth Maynard, Jeremy Wanless, Aurora Celtic, Osmosis, Bowyer Drive, Good Vittles, Ron Shaffer and Joy Sound Production, Missy McCollum and Chad Smith and Dunkerley. In addition, Sonshine Puppet Show will share its positive, kid-focused message.
In addition to the live entertainment, a number of vendors will participate offering jewelry, food, woodworking crafts and animal rescue information. The Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and gift shop will have booths with information and items for sale, as will a number of community organizations.
The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor fireworks downtown at dusk on Friday. At 10 a.m. Saturday, kids can register their decorated bikes for a parade and chance to win prizes, with free activities and games beginning immediately afterward.
