Upshur County Right to Life hosts annual Walk for Life

Children and adults, including the Right to Life group from Lewis County, recently attended the Upshur County Right to Life’s 30th Annual Rally and Walk for Life.

The rally was conducted at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Parish Hall, where president Diana Thompson gave the welcome, thanking those who attended and asking them to support the numerous local businesses who donated food, gifts and money for the rally and walk. The Rev. Jerry Murrel from the Way of Holiness Church followed with the invocation.

Speakers included Jennifer McWhorter, R.N., who discussed life experiences with abortion, and Del. Bill Hamilton, R-Upshur, who briefed attendees on issues concerning abortion and other legislative concerns.

Those attending were then entertained by Brenda Wyatt, who sang a beautiful song “Only God Knows What They Could Have Been,” about an aborted baby who will never know the joys of life and also about what has happened to America. Wyatt also sang “We’ve Got to Get America Back to God.” The Christian Fellowship Church’s youth group, which included Cora McDaniels, Janine Beer and Leanna Hinkle, put on a skit concerning abortion.

The children present received balloons to carry on the walk, and the adults carried signs or crosses with roses. Many people assembled for the rally and walk this year, including those from Lewis County.

For the walk, everyone joined solemnly together as one to show their love for the unborn and to remind the public of their loss. There have been more than 50 million aborted children since the 1973 Roe vs. Wade case that legalized abortion.

After the walk and the “Blessing on Walkers and Food” by Pastor Ed McDaniels of the Christian Fellowship Church, participants returned to the church where they were treated to lunch, door prizes and presentation of awards.

Edith Hosaflook presented the Pro-Life Person of the Year award to Jill Andrew. Thompson presented Hosaflook with a gift for collecting the most money for the walk, which was more than $2,000. Thompson also presented gifts to the oldest walker, 94-year-old Hazel Davidson, and the youngest walker, 4-year-old Allen Severe.

Churches recognized with the most pledges were Christian Fellowship, Tallmansville Baptist, Liberty Baptist, LDS Church, Calvary Baptist and Holy Rosary Church. Also, the Way of Holiness Church was recognized for its monthly pledges.
