Humane Society schedules public meeting

The Randolph County Humane Society will host its annual public board meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12 in the Timms Lounge, located downstairs in the Madden Student Center on the campus of Davis & Elkins College. Each year the Society plans an annual board meeting, open to the public, and the board members invite anyone who might be interested to come and learn about the work of the Randolph County Animal Shelter.

“We depend on assistance from our community,” said Maria Kostakos, a RCHS board member, “and are actively recruiting those who might want to volunteer their assistance in big or small ways. Volunteers are critical to the health and welfare of our organization as well as the animals in our care. We need help.”

The Randolph County Humane Society was established in 1958 as a nonprofit, 501 (c)(3) organization, and is a private, open-admissions animal shelter. RCHS accepts most homeless, lost, neglected, injured, abused, abandoned and owner-relinquished pets that are brought to the shelter.

The animal control officer, who is employed by the county, also brings stray pets to RCHS, and pets whose owners have been charged with abuse, have been arrested, evicted, hospitalized or have died. Though RCHS is often challenged by overcrowding, the shelter has one of the highest adoption rates in the state of West Virginia.

To learn more about the work of the Randolph County Humane Society, the RCHS board of directors and the shelter manager invite all who are interested to attend the Aug. 12 meeting.

A meeting to elect new board members will follow in September. You may contact Ginny Zuboy at gzuboy@gmail.com or by phone at 304-636-2075, for more information.
