Philippi Library recruiting for Run for It race

The Philippi Public Library is looking for runners, walkers, rollers (anyone who can roll in a wheelchair or a stroller), sponsors and matching donors for its team in this year’s Run For It race. The annual race is sponsored by the Tucker Community Foundation, a source for local charitable giving and social investment. The race takes place this year on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. through the streets of Davis.

“Last year’s Philippi Public Library team raised $5,195.26 for the library from donors, participants and awards,” said Philippi Public Library Team Captain and Director Judy Buckner Larry. “This year, the library is looking build a larger team and to exceed last year’s donations.”

Those who want to run, walk or roll in the 2k/5k walk or the competitive 5k run or those who want to sponsor the racers are invited to stop by the library and register for the Run For It race as a member of the Philippi Public Library team.

The library strives to provide quality materials, programs and services which fulfill the educational, informational, cultural and recreational needs of the community and fosters lifelong learning. The library offers an array of services, programs and classes for children, teens and adults.

“To continue to offer these programs and services and to provide patrons with opportunities to learn and explore new and emerging technologies, we need to update our technology. This year, the Run For It funds will be used for to make any necessary technological updates,” said Larry. “We are looking at additional costs for the new software that we will have to purchase to circulate and catalog books and other updates, so this fundraising is essential to the library. We are asking the community to help us ‘Dig Deeper and Aim Higher,’ which is our theme for the event.”

For further information about registering for the library’s race team, contact Larry or the Philippi Public Library at 304-457-3495, or stop by the library for a registration form.
