Elkins Tree Board plans workshops

The Elkins Tree Board has made the maintenance and upkeep of the many trees the city has planted the priority for 2013-2014. To this end, the board has been working with an arborist, Ric Wernicke, to begin hands-on workshops on tree maintenance and pruning.

The first workshop will be Saturday, Sept. 21, in Seneca Mall, where the city has planted over 25 trees.

If you are interested in helping during this day of service, please join in at Seneca Mall from 9 a.m. until noon. Ric will provide instructions to groups of volunteers for pruning each tree. Coffee will be available. If available, bring tools, gloves and safety glasses.

The hands-on workshops are planned to continue throughout the year each third Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, call Maryann Durland at 304-636-3896.
