Heavner Grove CEOS meets in September
Heavner Grove CEOS Club met at noon, Sept. 11, 2013, at Mt. Rupert United Methodist Church in the Eldon Tenney Fellowship Hall. Eloise Tenney, hostess, prepared a light luncheon for the members.
After the luncheon, Joyce Zirkle, co-president, called the meeting to order with the group salute to the American flag.
Hilda Ketterman, devotion leader, read the scripture Luke 14:25-33, a reading called “Divine Design,” and the group prayed together.
Elaine Wright taught the lesson, “What to Eat – Food Allergies.” Sharon Carr, health motivator, presented health facts about eggplants.
After the roll call, the minutes were read and corrected. Correction: there were 12 blankets for Head Start.
Eloise Tenney, treasurer, presented the club financial report. The balance in the club account is $881.97. She reported that the First Community Bank has requested that we go paperless, so we will receive our statement by email from now on.
The window decorated by Heavner Groove CEOS Club at Miller’s Pharmacy for Upshur County CEOS Club Week won third place and received a ribbon.
Zirkle reminded the club members about Learn and Return for January, February and March; about Breast Cancer Awareness Day, which is Oct. 7; and that committee reports are due Nov. 29.
Winnie Hoover prepared several cards for the club to send to club members and community members for a variety of reasons. Each club member present signed the cards.
Winnie Hoover quizzed the club members on current events. The answers were informative; however, the members gave up on one question and had to pay a fine.
Hilda Ketterman passed a picture around of her 7-inch cowpea that won the Biggest Vegetable title.
Joyce Zirkle shared highlights from her recent trip to the Warther Museum in Dover, Ohio. She told interesting stories and showed pictures of museum exhibits.
Zirkle announced the next meeting will be on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, in the Mt. Rupert UMC Eldon Tenney Fellowship Hall in Mt. Rupert at noon with Shirley Warner, hostess; Joyce Zirkle, lesson leader and co-president Elaine Wright presiding. The meeting was adjourned.
