Horticulture Field Day hosted by Tygarts Valley Conservation District
The Tygarts Valley Conservation District invites farmers, gardeners and those interested in High Tunnel farming, agritourism and farming in general to the first Horticulture Field Day at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Sickler Farm in Barbour County. Presentations will include “Irrigation Systems” by Gary Rapking (WVU-Extension) and Kathy Allen (USDA-NRCS), “Plant Health/Seasonal Crops” by Lewis Jett (WVU-Extension), “Pollinators” by Joyce Frey (TVCD) and “Marketing” by Jeff Sickler.
The Tygarts Valley Conservation District is composed of the counties of Barbour, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker and Upshur. The District provides services and equipment as needed by land users. Services are also provided to conservation partners to maintain conservation projects such as watershed dams, flood channels and forest access roads.
Construction services available to landowners include pond construction and cleanout, open ditching, spring developments, watering trough and pipeline installation, hydro seeding, dozer services and brush-hogging.
Equipment available for rent includes wet lime/poultry litter spreaders, fertilizer spreaders and post driver.
