Pringle Tree CEOS hosts meeting

Ten members of the Pringle Tree CEOS Club held their regular monthly meeting Aug. 7 in the fellowship hall of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church on Hacker’s Creek. President Julia Marple called the meeting to order at 1 p.m., with members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and giving the flag salute.

Izola Marple was in charge of devotions, reading Scripture from 2 Timothy 3:14-17 with a theme “All Scripture Is God Given.” She had a reading titled “Childhood Beginnings” about a little boy named Caleb whose beginnings were in Costa Rica. Love and fellowship in our club was addressed as she ended in prayer. The roll call was given by secretary Barbara Byrd, who also gave the report of the last meeting. Patty Simons gave the treasurer’s report, which was also approved. It was reported nine members had attended the club family picnic, which took place July 6 at the home of John and Luella Cvechko in Buckhannon. Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs were prepared by John, and members provided plenty of delicious side dishes and desserts.

A donation to help fight breast cancer was sent to the Upshur County CEOS, and Patty reported we had already sent $25 to the Relay For Life. The Mini-Fair, to be held in front of the Upshur County Courthouse today, Friday, Sept. 6, was discussed. Members decided to sell soup with Julia volunteering to provide homemade chili, Iris McLain and Patty to provide potato soup, and Barbara would provide homemade vegetable-beef soup. Izola and Patty would provide sandwiches, and Rosie would provide desserts. Other items would also be for sale.

An election of officers was held for 2014. President will be Barbara Byrd, the vice president will be Carol McPherson, the secretary will be Sherry Gibbs and the treasurer will be Patty Simons. We were reminded our club dues need to be paid by Nov. 1. Refreshments of finger foods provided by the members were served to Julia Marple, Jeanie Claypool, Barbara Byrd, Patty Simons, Iris McLain, Deloris Smith, Katrina Harris, Rosie Simons, Izola Marple, Carol McPherson, and special guest, little Bella Mullens.

The meeting adjourned. The next meeting took place Sept. 4 at the Pleasant Valley UMC with Patty Simons as hostess and lesson leader. The Pringle Tree CEOS Club invites all in the Hodgesville-Hackers Creek-Buckhannon area to come to our meetings. Husbands are welcome also. Our organization provides you with an opportunity to help support our communities and make Upshur County a wonderful place for all of us to live.
