Registration open for new children’s chorus

Classes for the new Davis & Elkins College Children’s Community Chorus begin Monday and registration is open through Sept. 30.

As part of the D&E Community Education program, the chorus is open to all children who are in grades second through fifth this fall.

“It’s a particularly important time for children in that age group to start developing their (singing) voices,” said D&E Community Education Coordinator Liz Marshall-MacVean.

Students will learn a wide variety of choral literature and choral warm-ups from a certified music instructor and choral conductor during rehearsals every Monday through Dec. 9, from 7-8 p.m. in the D&E Chapel. The repertoire will include sacred, secular and seasonal pieces, including selections by well-known composers. A public capstone performance is scheduled for Dec. 15.

The fee to join is $180 per semester which covers the cost of rehearsals, music and a polo shirt for the premier performance. There is no limit to the number of students who may join.
