Shuttlesworth joins D&E psychology faculty
Dr. Mary E. Shuttlesworth has been appointed as an assistant professor of psychology at Davis & Elkins College. She will join the faculty beginning with the fall semester when she will teach Introduction to Human Services, Statistics and Research Methods, Lifespan Development, Child Development and Adolescent Development.
“I am excited to start at D&E, and I am really looking forward to working actively with students and the campus community,” Shuttlesworth said.
Shuttlesworth earned her Ph.D. in applied developmental psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in 2012 and her Master of Arts degree in clinical psychology from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2007. She holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and sociology from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated summa cum laude, received the Smith-Hinds Shigmatsu scholarship for excellence in sociology and was twice recognized by the psychology department with the annual award for student excellence in psychology.
Prior to coming to D&E, Shuttlesworth was an assistant professor of psychology at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M., from 2012 to 2013. She also has worked as an instructor of psychology at Community College of Baltimore County in Maryland in 2012; University of Maryland, Baltimore County from 2010 to 2011; and Harrisburg Area Community College in Harrisburg, Pa., from 2007 to 2008. She was a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Maryland from 2008 to 2010.
In addition, she has worked as a consultant to Baltimore City Head Start, academic advisor at the University of Maryland, family-based therapist at Adams-Hanover Counseling Services, clinical extern for Rehab After Work and therapeutic staff support at Chester County Regional Educational Services.
Shuttlesworth is a member of the American Psychological Association, American Psychological Association Division 7: Developmental, Association of Women in Psychology and Lock Haven University Chapter of Psi Chi.
