Business marks 30 years open

A longtime local business is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month.

Pioneer Insurance Agency Inc. was established on Oct. 1, 1983, by F. Ellen Streets, president and owner. The agency has two offices in Elkins, including one at 200 Davis. Ave. and another on the Beverly Five-lane at the corner of Glenmore Loop Road.

It serves individuals, families and businesses in seven counties in the heart of West Virginia’s eastern mountains, including Randolph, Upshur, Barbour, Harrison, Tucker, Pocahontas and Pendleton counties.

“We’d like to thank all of our customers for their patronage over the years, and we are honored to help serve them,” said Vice President Jeffrey D. Stalnaker. “We are dedicated to serving the needs of our policyholders with efficient, courteous and prompt attention. We always welcome new customers, and anyone can call us or stop by to get quotes at any time.”

In celebration of the agency’s anniversary, Stalnaker said folks are welcome to stop by either office to pick up a free 2014 calendar.

As a full-service agency, Pioneer Insurance Agency offers many types of insurance policies, such as personal auto, home, life, health and annuities, as well as commercial property, auto, group life, group health and workers’ compensation. Flood insurance also is available, as well as bonding.

The agency is affiliated with a number of companies, some of which include Erie Insurance Group, Progressive, Panhandle Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., Dairyland Cycle Insurance, Viking/Dairyland Auto, Assurant Health, Omaha Insurance Co. and UnitedHealthOne.

“We work with these companies to offer customers a range of options, so they can select the level of insurance coverage that best meets their needs,” Stalnaker said. “These companies offer great rates, and more importantly, they provide excellent, high-quality coverage.”

Stalnaker, an Elkins native, has worked at Pioneer Insurance Agency Inc. for 12 years. He said he has learned a great deal from Streets, who has been in the insurance field since 1970.

Streets is a native of Pocahontas County and a graduate of Marlinton High School. Prior to starting her insurance career, Streets served in the Women’s Army Corps for three years. From 1981 to 1991, she served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal in 1988.

She has attended numerous insurance schools on an annual basis and currently holds designations of Life Underwriting and Training Council Fellow, Certified Professional Insurance Woman and Certified Insurance Counselor. Streets has been listed in several editions of the National Directory of Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals and Who’s Who of Women of the World.

In addition to Streets and Stalnaker, Pioneers Insurance Agency Inc.’s employees include Linda Coberly, executive assistant and customer service representative; Shelly Kerns, branch manager/agent; Matthew Stalnaker, agent/marketing assistant; Hope Nazelrod, CSR/agent; and Beth Henry-Vance, CSR.

The agency participates in Randolph County Relay For Life each year; supports 4-H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other youth programs; and takes part in community events, such as HOFNOD, the Mountain State Forest Festival, the West Virginia Strawberry Festival and the Barbour County Fair. In 2011, Erie Insurance Group awarded Pioneer Insurance Agency the Giving Network Agency of the Year Award, which included a $2,500 donation to the United Way.
