Edinger entertains Elkins Woman’s Club at meeting

More than 80 General Federation of Women’s Clubs-West Virginia-Woman’s Club of Elkins members and guests were entertained Tuesday in the First Methodist Church Family Life Center as Les Edinger provided exceptional comedy and members gave details about assorted projects the group is currently addressing.

After being served an excellent Italian dinner by the Davis & Elkins College Catering Service, the Guest Night crowd heard from President Cindy Stemple about unfinished business including program distribution, and Finance Vice-President Diana VanNoy discussed fund-raising issues.

Katie Kerns spoke about arts activities and encouraged members to attend the group’s planned night to see the American Mountain Theater’s Christmas Show Dec. 5.

Kathy McMenamy announced that the Pearl Buck Book Club is continuing to meet and represents ongoing support of Pearl Buck’s Birthplace in Pocahontas County.

Donna Langevin spoke about the Davis House and needs the group is filling there. Tyler Kenney’s Eagle Scout Project was supported by the group where two trees were purchased and planted, and a bench was built for the facility.

Janice Gongola, Public Issues chairman, announced the group would be helping with the “Common Ground” lunch and, also, the next Red Cross Blood Drive.

“Woman’s Health Day” was assisted by the group according to Home Life Chairman Barbara Whritenour and “Boxtops for Education” will be too, as revealed in a report by Education Chairman Jean Schmidt.

A concluding report was given by Marijane Kiley, Arts and Crafts Show Chairman, who thanked all those helping with the recent Craft Show at the Davis and Elkins Memorial Gym.

During Les Edinger’s interesting program, many chuckles were heard throughout the room as he explained several life events that had peculiar results. He also recited original poetry that had messages pertaining to values, inspirational themes and words of encouragement.

As members prepared to depart, it was announced that the new Central District President would be Elkins Clubmember and Past President Maxine Pingley with Joan Tacy serving as District Secretary and Faye Channell continuing as District Treasurer.
