Female sports clinics offered

Elkins Explosion Fast Pitch Softball, in cooperation with Elkins Physical Therapy and Sports Injury Clinic, Davis Health Systems and Davis and Elkins College Women’s Softball, will present a series of off-season training clinics during the month of October.

Clinics will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 26 at the Martin Field House on the lower campus of Davis and Elkins College.

All female athletes from the area participating in any sport are invited to attend these clinics, and all will be admitted without charge. The first clinic will be presented by Chad Shoemaker of EPT/SIC and will focus on stretching to prevent injury and proper stretching technique.

The second clinic will be presented by Jim Severino, from Davis Health Systems, who will identify nutritional needs of female athletes during the season, throughout the off-season, and on game day.

The final clinic, presented by Shoemaker, will provide information about strength training and conditioning without weights.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring a glove. After each clinic there will be an opportunity to throw indoors, with local players and coaches available to instruct in proper throwing and arm strengthening exercises. Clinics are for female athletes age 8 and up.

Elkins Explosion is the area fast pitch softball travel squad which competes in tournaments in West Virginia and Virginia throughout the summer.

Three age groups participated this past summer, including age 12 and under, age 14 and under, and age 18 and under.

Players interested in participating next year, or any female athlete having questions about the clinics should contact elkinsexplosion@gmail.com.
