Wesleyan alumni return to perform

The Department of Theatre and Dance at West Virginia Wesleyan College will welcome back seven alumni as well as current WVWC dance minors, dance scholarship students, community members and past and current WVWC faculty to perform a Dance Works production on Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 10-12 as part of the college’s Arts Alive! series.

Returning to campus are Bridget Bonamico ’13, Kathleen Burnard ’11, Amanda Lanham ’11, Alex Richardson ’13, Kristin Sayre ’12 and Jocelyn Spellman ’11.

Choreographed in 2009 by Gretchen Moore, lecturer, “Realization” will be performed by Lanham, Burnard and Spellman. As students, the trio performed the piece at the West Virginia State Dance Festival and The American College Dance Festival in 2010. That same piece was reset on major dance companies such as Pittsburgh’s Dance Alloy Theatre and the August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble, as well as the West Virginia Dance Company in Beckley.

In addition, students from the Augusta Youth Ballet and The Dance Factory, owned by former WVWC dance instructor Nina Scattaregia, will be performing.

The dance group, along with Scattaregia and Moore, will perform a comical modern piece called “Aria,” choreographed by the Dance Alloy Theatre’s past artistic director, Mark Taylor. Moore will be performing a modern dance solo entitled “Induction.”

Dance Works will open Oct.10-12, Thursday at 8 p.m., Friday at 9 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. in Culpepper Auditorium in the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts. Admission is $8 for general public, $5 for students and senior citizens and $3 with a Wesleyan ID.

For more information, please contact Gretchen Moore, lecturer, at moore_g@wvwc.edu or by calling 304-473-8052.
