Pringle CEOS Club meets for October
Seven members of the Pringle Tree CEOS Club held their regular monthly meeting on Oct. 2 in the fellowship hall of the Pleasant Valley UMC on Hackers Creek.
President Julia Marple called the meeting to order at 1 p.m. with members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and giving the flag salute. Barbara Byrd gave the roll call.
Izola Marple was in charge of devotions with a reading, “What is a Farmer,” and ending with a prayer of St. Francis, “Just For Today Only.” Secretary Barbara Byrd read the minutes from the September meeting.
Patty Simons gave the treasurer’s report with both reports approved as read. Iris McLain, lesson leader, presented a very informative lesson from the West Virginia University Extension Service entitled “West Virginia Wonders.” Our wonderful state of West Virginia with 55 counties has many hidden treasures to discover along with the state’s popular tourist attractions.
Amazingly, these tourism treasures contribute to $4.27 billion in visitor spending, 45,000 jobs, and $580 million in state and local taxes. But there is another side of West Virginia that is off the beaten track – the natural wonders of West Virginia.
Her highest hill is Spruce Knob located at 4,863 feet; we also have Seneca Rocks, Ice Mountain, and Castle Rock.
West Virginia has rivers that create cascades like Blackwater Falls.
The New River is actually the oldest river in the United States and it’s known for rafting and its 1,700-foot single span steel bridge. In addition to rivers, the state overflows with an abundance of lakes, beautiful trees, flowers, wildlife and rare animals. Love those West Virginia Hills!
Members discussed t-shirts they plan to have made for wearing at group functions. Iris McLain, hostess, served finger food refreshments to Anne Sterneman, Patty Simons, Izola Marple, Julia Marple, Jeanie Claypool and Barbara Byrd.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday at the Pleasant Valley Church with Izola Marple as hostess. Members will bring a covered dish for the Thanksgiving meal starting at noon.
