Children enjoy Santa’s Workshop

Santa’s Workshop, sponsored by Elkins ON TRAC and participating businesses, enters its fifth week on Friday and Saturday with a variety of activities for young children in downtown Elkins.

Karen Carper, ON TRAC project manager, said the most popular activities have entertained as many as 40 children on one day of the workshop.

Many activities are free of charge; others may cost up to $5 to cover the cost of materials.

This weekend, children will be able to make and eat cookies at Henry G’s, 110 Third St., Friday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. Cookies are served with a drink.

Youngsters can make Elf Hats at Elkins Sewing Center, 300 Davis Ave., from 2 to 4 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday.

Other Friday evening activities include Story Time with Mrs. Claus at Clara Belle’s, 320 Davis Ave., and Nail Painting and Hair Glamorizing at Terri’s Shear Magic, 200 Second St.

Cookie decorating is also part of Story Time at Main Line Books Saturday morning. The activity will begin at 10 a.m. at the store, Davis Avenue and Third Street.

A popular activity will return to Good Energy Foods Saturday morning as members of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority help children make pine cone bird feeders. The activity will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon. Good Energy Foods is at 214 Third St.

Other Saturday morning activities include holiday portraits and portrait framing at Talbott Frameshop, 220 Third St. Portraits will be taken by photographer Debbie Sorrenson of Gold Dome Photography. The cost of portraits and framing begins at $5 each. Various sizes and framing choices are

available.

Two downtown cafes will offer music to entertain children while parents enjoy their favorite morning beverage. Kids can sing holiday songs with Kris Woodrum at Kissel Stop Cafe, 23 Third St., or enjoy live music at Clara Belle’s from 10 a.m. to noon.

Santa’s Workshop welcomes children 12 years of age and younger. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
