Santa’s Workshop set Friday and Saturday
Businesses will host activities for children in downtown Elkins this Friday and Saturday during the final weekend of Santa’s
The workshop has included holiday singing and making cookies, ornaments, elf hats and antlers. It began Nov. 8.
Sue Pifer, owner of Elkins Sewing Center, one of the 12 participating businesses, said Santa’s Workshop is an opportunity for businesses to build relationships in the community and welcome visitors.

Pifer said workshop participation has increased dramatically since it began in 2012. “We have had as many (children) on one day as we had the entire time last year,” she said.
Children can make elf hats from 2 to 4 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the center, 300 Davis Ave.
Youngsters also can roll, cut and decorate their own cookies Friday afternoon at Henry G’s, 110 Third St. Cookies will be baked by staff and served to children with a drink from 2 to 4 p.m.
Friday evening, Mrs. Claus will read stories at Clara Belle’s, 320 Davis Ave. Story Time begins at 5 p.m. and will continue until 7 p.m.
Special holiday hair and nail treatment will also be available for youngsters Friday evening. Kids can choose from sparkly nail polish, glittering hair ornaments, or red and green hair gel. Hair and nail glamorizing will be offered at Terri’s Shear Magic, located at 200 Second St.
Santa’s Workshop will continue from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Holiday Portraits and Framing will be offered at Talbott Frameshop, 220 Third St. Individual or group photos may be made with a holiday-themed background. A variety of sizes and framing options are available.
Main Line Books at Davis Avenue and Third Street will welcome children for Story Time at 10 a.m.
Also at 10 a.m., Kissel Stop at 23 Third St. will host a holiday sing-a-long with guitarist Kris Woodrum. Woodrum will also perform a selection of pieces for classical guitar.
Good Energy Foods, 214 Third St., will welcome Akiko Endo back to the Kids Corner to make origami ornaments with children from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
Santa’s Workshop, sponsored by Elkins ON TRAC and participating businesses, is for children 12 years of age and younger. Many activities are free; others may cost up to $5 to pay for materials. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
