National Drug Facts Week shattering myths

Drug Fact No. 3: About 38 percent of teens have tried marijuana one or more times, and about 19 percent of teens currently use marijuana (according to emedicinehealth.com).

National Drug Facts Week runs through Sunday. The annual national event was launched in 2010 by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, part of the National Institutes of Health. To counteract the myths they get from the Internet, TV, movies, music or from friends, NIDA scientists want to stimulate events in communities so teens can learn what science has taught as about drug abuse and addiction.

National Drug Facts Week is an opportunity for teens to shatter the myths about drugs and drug abuse. In community and school events all ever America, teens and experts will come together for an honest conversation about how drugs affect the brain, body and behavior. In school assemblies, after school clus, athletic events, book clubs and other venues, students will be able to ask questions about drugs, or discuss NIDA materials designed for teens.

Youth Health Service, Home Ties Strengthening Families Center, America’s Promise Coalition and area schools have teamed up to bring drug awareness to Randolph County children and teens.
