Area libraries to apply for grant funds
PHILIPPI – Two area libraries are turning to their local governments for help in completing grant applications.
Philippi City Council, on Tuesday, and Belington City Council, on Thursday, each voted to lend a helping hand by agreeing to act as a conduit through which grant money could be obtained for their respective public libraries.
Neither the Philippi Public Library nor the Belington Public Library have been awarded the grant money yet, but the application requires a grant partner.
Philippi Public Library is applying for two different grants through the Governor’s Community Participation Program. One is in the amount of $2,000 and another is in the amount of $3,000. Belington Public Library is applying for a $1,000 and a $2,000 grant through the GCPP as well.
As a relative of Philippi’s library director, Judy Buckner Larry, Philippi City Councilman Ed Larry said he had to abstain from voting at the Philippi City Council meeting this week. The motion passed 4-0 with all other council members voting in favor.
The vote was unanimous at Belington City Council also, but two council members – Dave Hamrick and Sonny Moore – were not in attendance to cast a vote.
