Cardiovascular health event set
ELKINS – February is American Heart Month – how much do you really know about cardiac health? Davis Medical Center (DMC) wants to help you take charge of your health by offering a free community forum on Healthy Hearts Thursday, Feb. 13, from 5-7 p.m. in the ground floor cafeteria overflow.
“We’re providing insight and guidance from physicians and other experts at Davis Medical Center on how to improve heart health,” Melissa Kisner, from DMC’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Center said. “Guests can learn about heart disease and risk factors, medications, diet and much more.”
The program features board-certified cardiologist Dr. Chalak Berzingi of the West Virginia University Heart Institute. Other panelists include Amanda Smith, RPh; dietitians Sonya Phares, CD and James Severino, RD, LD, CDE; and Kisner and Megan Session, RN, from the Cardiac Rehab Center.
Each year communities and health professionals across the nation target February as a time to raise awareness to fight heart disease, the number one killer of women. Heart disease claims the lives of more women each year than all forms of cancer combined.
Healthy snacks and free take-home will be provided.
Reservations are encouraged by calling the Cardiac Rehab Center at 304-637-3623.
“We are committed to helping our communities live better by empowering them with information,” added Kisner. “We hope many people will take advantage of this valuable opportunity.”
