EHS students receive All-State recognition

Christine Zurbuch and Camryn Zirbs, freshmen at Elkins High School, recently participated in the West Virginia American Choral Directors All-State.

The two spent after-school time preparing music for the event with their director, Liz Marshall-MacVean. The ACDA All-State was held Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 2 at the Charleston Civic Center, with the grand finale concert being held at the Municipal Auditorium.

The students were in intensive rehearsals two days prior to the final concert, working alongside other middle and high school students throughout the state. They also had the opportunity to be directed under guest counductor and composer Andrea Ramsey.

The final concert repertoire sung was the traditional Zulu song titled “Amavolovolo” with African drumming, the spiritual “Go Down Moses” by Tom Shelton, and two selections composed by the guest director, titled “Wake Me A Song,” with lyrics by author Abram Joseph Ryan, and the selection “I Love all Things,” with lyrics by Sara Teasdale.
