St. Elizabeth’s Church collects soup
St. Elizabeth’s Parish Family of Philippi was in the spirit of competition during the month of January as it collected soups of all kinds leading up to the “Souper Bowl,” the local designation for its annual soup collection that culminates on Super Bowl Sunday.
This year four teams added cans of soup to the growing mound of soup displayed in the church’s vestibule throughout the month. The friendly competition ended with the real winner being the Heart and Hand Food Pantry which received a total of 688 cans of soup from St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church.
In celebration of the “Souper Bowl” success, parishioners gathered after Sunday Mass on Super Bowl Sunday to enjoy a meal of home-made soups and the fellowship of friends and family.
