Barbour Health Department offers programs
The Barbour County Health Department offers many services for the residents of Barbour and surrounding counties, including the “Right from the Start” and the West Virginia Healthy Start (HAPI)
The “Right from the Start” program has been housed at the Barbour County Health Department since the early 1990s. This program is available for pregnant women, free of charge.
Information available includes: childbirth and labor, nutrition, smoking cessation, transportation assistance, relocation, depression screening, baby resources, dental screening and cleaning, and counseling and medication evaluations.
The West Virginia Healthy Start (HAPI) Project focuses on reducing the infant mortality rate. Staff members recently joined with other partners in participating in the “Baby and Me” Day at Meadowbrook Mall, in which more than 200 families participated.
Staff members working with these programs at the Barbour County Health Department include Mary Cather, Brandy Burkhammer and Elizabeth Grimes.
