CEOS club meets

The Heavner Grove CEOS Club met Feb. 12, at the Mt. Rupert UMC Eldon Tenney Fellowship Hall. Hostess Eloise Tenney served a delicious luncheon before the meeting began. Co-president Joyce Zirkle called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance to the American flag.

Mary Dagley led devotions reading 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient.” She read a reminder that there are opportunities to grow outside of comfort zones and closed with a prayer.

The minutes were read and approved. Treasurer Tenney gave the financial report. Two thank-you notes for donations made to the Upshur Parish House were read.

Blankets will be collected for headstart again this year. Members were reminded to bring fleece blankets. Head Start also will need 193 pairs of mittens and hats this year. The club has some sets ready to give. Club members are to bring more sets to a meeting if they wish to donate.

Shirley Warner reported that Achievement Night with the theme, “A Star Attraction,” will be March 31 at Way of Holiness. The cost is $15 per person.

Health motivator Sharon Carr explained health benefits and various types and uses of garlic and shared new recipes using garlic. Tenney presented the program, “Irish and Scottish Influences in Appalachia.”

Zirkle won a door prize, tulips.

During show and tell, Zirkle shared two small quilts, one large quilt and a chair cushion she made. Elaine Wright showed a “Little Dress” clothespin holder she made.

At the March 12 meeting Shirley will host a “Green Thing Dinner.” Members will bring green food to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Zirkle will be the lesson leader.
