Midland Elementary hosting Jump Rope for Heart

Students at Midland Elementary School are jumping at a chance to help fight heart disease and stroke, our nation’s number one and number three killers.

On March 22, the school will hold its 16th annual Jump Rope for Heart Event. The fun starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 3 p.m. It will be held at the Midland School gymnasium. Jump Rope for Heart coordinator Bob Sponaugle said last year’s students from Midland School raised more than $2,000.

Students will jump rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association’s Cardiovascular Research and Education programs. Jump Rope for Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for health, physical education, recreation and dance.

Jump Rope for Heart teaches participants about the importance of healthy lifestyles. The event empowers children as they provide vital community service and discover they can make a difference. Students also enjoy being part of a team while jumping into the spirit of this fun-filled event. Jumpers will also receive thank you gifts for their efforts. The more funds they raise, the more gifts they receive.

Officials are asking area businesses for discounts on food items or some type of free offerings they can give away at the Jump Rope for Heart event. For more information about the event, contact Sponaugle at 304-636-7309.
