Saturday workshops offered at Arts Center

ELKINS – The Randolph County Community Arts Center is offering new Saturday workshop classes.

Join instructor Ken Waddell for one of his popular water media classes. Basic techniques will be covered, such as using brushes, paint and papers, as well as color mixing and composition. Learn to choose and use colors effectively, build a strong foundation of lights and darks and use a variety of application techniques. Instruction will be tailored to the skill level of each individual student. Limited enrollment. Class will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 3, 10 and 17. The class is open to adults and costs $120.

“Decorating Gourds: Bunnies, Baskets, Bowls & Birdhouses.” Maggi Rhudy shows students how to clean and prepare gourds to create one-of-a-kind decorative containers and birdhouses. Grounds and materials are supplied. Students are invited to bring additional clean grounds and embellishments if they’d like. There will be a one-hour break for lunch. Limited enrollment.

Class will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, and is open to preteens through adults. The cost of the class is $50.

Get in tune with Earth Day. Join in on this one-day workshop with Akiko Endo for DIY craft projects to up-cycle household items. Learn to conserve the resources and save the environment. Class will meet from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12. If a family is participating, the cost is $20 per child and parents join in for free, otherwise, $20 per student.
