Woodland Owners meeting set

Meeting with other woodland owners allows you to find ways to work smarter, worry less and enjoy your woods more. The meeting and seminar of West Virginia Woodland Owners Association will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 29 at the Wood Tech Center on 11th Street in the Industrial Park Section in Elkins.

Lunch will be provided. Also, 4.0 (Category-1) CFE Credits are offered.

Topics will include: wild turkey habitat and species management in West Virginia woodlands with Cully McCurdy, National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF); improving quality tree species regeneration, growth and survival by controlling native (A. Beech, spice bush, etc.); and non-native invasive tree and plant species in West Virginia (tree-of-heaven, multiflora rose, etc.) with Jeff Kochenderfer, USDA Forest Service; oak species regeneration, growth, and survival in West Virginia with Gary Miller, USDA Forest Service; timber sale and land associated legislative – bills and laws and taxes in West Virginia with Frank Stewart, West Virginia Forestry Association, president; timber harvest contracts and sale administration in West Virginia with Jim Mitchell and Jim Hayes, consulting foresters; and West Virginia WOA 2014 educational field tours with Dan Magill, West Virginia University Appalachian Hardwood Center.
