Adaland Mansion opens season
“We have a season full of new events and previously enjoyed events for our 15th season at Adaland Mansion, Philippi’s beautifully restored 1870 mansion just four miles from downtown Philippi,” announced Ann Serafin, executive director of Adaland Mansion at Philippi.
Kicking off the season is an afternoon of specialty teas. Guests have two options for May 3 when they may chose to attend a High Tea at 2 p.m. or a Royal Tea at 5 p.m. in the beautifully appointed mansion dining rooms.
Adaland’s High Teas include home-baked scones, an assortment of fruits, tea sandwiches and desserts along with hot or cold tea and an Adaland signature chocolate. The 5 p.m. Royal Tea adds a course of “little savories” and a complimentary glass of champagne to the former menu. Reservations for the Royal Tea are $30. Call 304-457-2415 for reservations for either specialty tea.
Looking for something exceptional for that special woman in your life? Join Adaland Mansion for its traditional Mother’s Day Buffet on May 11 with seatings from 14 p.m. Adaland’s always enjoyed buffet table will be laden with homemade favorites and lots of dessert choices for everyone being treated on this special day.
A new event added to the season’s calendar is the May 15 Bridge Card Party Day. This event follows a private card party last season that met with much excitement and interest from bridge playing guests. This first of two card party days this season will be from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adaland will set 12 tables with a limit of 48 persons.
The final public event at Adaland Mansion for May 31 Blue and Gray Ladies Buffet Tea, a standard affair of the annual Blue and Gray Reunion. The tea was initially established for lady reenactors from the Blue and Gray Reunion in Philippi and has grown to include all who are interested in the Rrunion. The public event, that also is an excellent photo opportunity, requires reservations.
Guests new to Adaland Mansion will discover through the May events the wide variety of offerings the historic site has for the community, region and state. Seasoned visitors to the historic house on the hilltop will continue to enjoy the events that offer something for everyone during the May to December season.
With the opening of the mansion, visitors are reminded the house and barn are open for public tours on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1-5 p.m.
Adult tours are $10 and children are free. Tours do not require prior reservations.
