Scouting dinner to honor Harvey
The Highland District Friends of Scouting are pleased to be presenting the 2014 Highland District Friends of Scouting Distinguished Citizen Award to T. Richard “Dick” Harvey at a dinner May 1 at the First United Methodist Church in Elkins.
The Distinguished Citizen Award is presented to a member of the community that is characterized by excellence in community service. Harvey has dedicated his life to his community, particularly in serving the area youth. Many people are aware of his service with Elkins Babe Ruth, where he coached 28 years and served as its treasurer for 24 years, totaling over 35 years volunteering for the organization. He has also served as a member of the Elkins Parks and Recreation Commission for 30 years and is currently serving as the chairman. He has also coached 10 years of Jerry West basketball at the local YMCA.
Harvey has also supported the local education system by speaking at numerous high school and college classes about banking, management, career planning and the economy. He has served as a judge for numerous Social Studies fairs, both at the school and county levels. Further, Harvey has participated in many “Project Interview” and “Evening with Business” activities at Davis & Elkins College and is a former board member for Youth Health Services.
Professionally, Harvey serves as the president and CEO of Mountain Valley Bank and is a certified public accountant with membership in the West Virginia Society of CPA’s. Personally, he is married to his wife, Roseann Harvey. Together they have two sons, Jeff and wife, Deanna, and daughter, Talia; and Steven. Previously, he has been recognized as the IOOF Humanitarian of the Year and the Elkins Randolph County Chamber of Commerce Businessman of the Year.
Tickets for the event are currently on sale. Ticket cost is $100 and includes dinner. Tickets can be purchased by calling 304-636-0991 ext. 276 or by contacting any dinner committee member. All proceeds benefit local youth in the Boy Scouts of America Allohak Council Highland District.
