Tucker Senior Centers planning activities

The Tucker County Senior Centers are encouraging seniors to get out and enjoy the spring and summer weather that is on the horizon. There is nothing better than the beautiful outdoor weather and the opportunity to walk, exercise and work outside to help us feel better.

Before performing exerting work or exercise, especially after a long layoff, it is advisable to check with your doctor, and of course to keep check on your blood pressure. Both Mountain Hospice and Hospice Care Corporations are planning to help make blood pressure clinics available at both the Mountain Top and Parsons sites.

A schedule of the blood pressure check clinics will be forthcoming. Officials encourage participants to stop by the centers on the designated days and take advantage of these free opportunities.

Officials are also working with The Wellness Center to encourage participation in the Silver Sneaker Program and promote the wonderful opportunities available at The Wellness Center.

SHIP representative Ann Filler is still taking applications for eligible participants who meet the guidelines and do not have prescription insurance to receive help through the Prescription Assistance Program to receive low or no cost medicines. If you need more information, please call the Senior Center at 304-478-2423 for an appointment with Ann.

Officials may still have two openings for the Oct. 2-12 trip to Hawaii. Please call ASAP if you would like more information.

Two reservations are still available for the June 10-12 tour of Washington D.C. Call right away if you are interested.

Because the July 8-10 trip to Lancaster/Moses has completely filled and several people on the reserve list were not able to go, officials are planning a second trip early in August.

More participants are needed to make the trip feasible. Officials need to know as soon as possible if you are interested to get the seats, rooms, etc. reserved.

Other trips in the planning stages are a trip to Mayberry and Myrtle Beach in September, a Pittsburgh trip, baseball (Pirates vs. Boston) Sept. 17 which is an overnight trip and includes shopping and touring, and a Christmas trip in early December to Williamsburg. Call if any of these trips are of interest to you.

If you are celebrating a birthday in April, officials invite you to celebrate today at the Mt. Top Center. Guests celebrating April birthdays will be given special recognition and all in attendance will share a homemade birthday cake provided by Hospice Care Center.
