Federer students to perform recital

Piano pupils of Eloise Federer will be presented in a recital May 18 at Halliehurst on the campus of Davis & Elkins College.

The public is invited to attend the program, which will begin at 4 p.m.

The recital also will feature the performance of internationally acclaimed pianist James Mittenberger of Morgantown, who has received recognition for his musical attainment. Also, Davis & Elkins artist-in-residence Jack Gibbons, from Oxford, England, along with pupil Liam Purkey, will play two duets – “Dolly” by Faure and “Hungarian Dance No. 5” by Brahms.

A native of Ohio, Mittenberger has a Bachelor of Music degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, as well as masters and doctoral degrees from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.

As a solo pianist, pianist in the Mittenberger Jazz Quintet, member of Percussion ’80 and featured soloist with the WVU Alumni Band, he has toured the United States, Europe and Asia.

Elkins pupils appearing in the recital are Elizabeth Brake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Travers Brake; Sarah Ratnakar, daughter of Dr. Nitesh Ratnakar and Linda Johansson; Maxie McCollam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis McCollam; Kaia Miller, daughter of Todd Miller and Katherine Somers; Liam Purkey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Purkey; and Preston Marsh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Marsh.

Out-of-town pupils include Lydia Mace, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rich Mace of Philippi, and Merida Kaiser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kaiser of Belington.
