Roosevelt to be portrayed at dinner

ELKINS – Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, portrayed by Patty Cooper of Parkersburg, will be featured at this year’s Presbyterian Women of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church Mother/Daughter Birthday Dinner.

The event is slated for 6 p.m. May 15 and is open to all mothers and daughters.

The dinner will be in the fellowship hall and lasagna is the main course.

Those attending are asked to bring a salad to share.

Roosevelt was selected to help celebrate the role of women. She was a vocal champion of social reform and human rights and traveled widely representing the president.

She authored books, wrote newspaper columns and visited troops during World War II.

She is well remembered in West Virginia for founding the homestead communities of Arthurdale and Valley Bend in 1934.

The presentation is made possible through the History Alive! program of the West Virginia Humanities Council.
