Coalton Day’s pageants set

On Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Coalton Elementary School gymnasium, 10 girls will be competing for the title as the 2014 Coalton Day’s Miss Teen and two girls will be competing for the title of 2014 Junior Teen.

These girls are between the ages of 11 and 18 and all live within the Coalton school zone. The theme for the night’s festivities will be “A Tour of Italy: The 20th Anniversary of Coalton Days.” The contestants will be competing in four phases of competition: sports wear, night out wear, formal wear and on-stage

interview.

Competing this year for the Junior Teen are Alexis Lane and Allison Smith.

Lane, 11, is the daughter of Corey Lane and Sara Currence of Norton. She is the granddaughter of Ping and Brenda Currence and Dick and Sharon Ross. She will be in the sixth grade at Elkins Middle School Lane represented her school at the County Social Studies Fair.

Smith, 13, is the daughter of Donald and Sherry Smith of Mabie. She is the granddaughter of Jerry and the late Sandy Helmick, and Donna and the late Cecil Smith. She will be in the eighth grade at Elkins Middle School and is a member of the Elkins Middle School basketball team.

Competing this year for Miss Teen are Tara Marstiller, Chloe Phillips, Teshia Williams, Natalie Wolford, Chelsey George, Chelsey Hammonds, Shala Rowan, Alexis Noel, Deanna Higgins and Haley Smith.

Marstiller, 17, is the daughter of Shawn Marstiller of Mabie. She is the granddaughter of Rex and Sonya Wegman. She will be a senior at Elkins High School in the fall. Marstiller is a recipient of the hidden promise scholarship program.

Phillips, 15, is the daughter of John and Tammy Phillips of Norton. She is the granddaughter of Carl and Carolyn Elmore and Willie and Dorothea Phillips. She will be a sophomore at Elkins High School. Phillips has received numerous awards in basketball and softball. She is active in her church youth group and Hi-Y club.

Williams, 15, is the daughter of Liz Williams of Harding. She is the granddaughter of Foster and Bonnie Williams. She will be a sophomore at Elkins High School. Williams is in the National Honor Society in Spanish and the Honor Roll.

Wolford, 15, is the daughter of Twila Wolford of Coalton and Jon Bennett of Jimtown. She is going to be a sophomore at Elkins High School. Wolford was a cheerleader for Elkins High School and won 2013’s Most Outstanding Cheerleader. Wolford volunteers at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church spaghetti dinners.

George, 16. is the daughter of Rachel and Mike Ball of Mabie. She is the granddaughter of Mike and Barbara George and Suzie Ball. She will be a junior at Tygarts Valley High School in the fall.

Hammonds, 14, is the daughter of Anthony Hammonds of Coalton. She is the granddaughter of Bonnie Hammonds, Larry Herron and Christina Hinchman. She is a sophomore at Elkins High School. She is involved in Congress of Future Medical Leaders and the National Young Leaders State Conference.

Rowan, 14, is the daughter of Jake and Tammy Rowan of Coalton. She is the granddaughter of David and Debbie Rowan and Ettie and the late Robert Grey. She is a freshman at Elkins High School. Rowan is actively involved in her church.

Noel, 16, is the daughter of William and Patricia Noel of Norton. She is the granddaughter of Charles and Suzie George. She will be a junior at Elkins High School. Noel is involved in cheerleading and dance, and is on the A/B honor roll.

Higgins, 13, is the daughter of Shawn and Becky Higgins of Coalton. She is the granddaughter of Mike and Cathy Higgins and Andrew Mahanes. She will be in the 9th grade at Elkins High School. She participated in Roaring Creek baseball and Coalton basketball.

Haley Smith, 14, is the daughter of Donald and Sherry Smith of Mabie. She is the granddaughter of Jerry and the late Sandy Helmick and Donna and the late Cecil Smith. She will be in the eighth grade at Elkins Middle School. Smith is a member of the Elkins Middle School basketball team and on the honor roll.
