Hunger Walk Day proclaimed

Lewis County Commission President Agnes Queen designated Oct. 5 “CROP Hunger Walk Day” in Lewis County at a recent proclamation signing at the commission’s meeting room.

CROP Walk organizer Louella Clem, representing the Lewis County Christian Alliance, requested the proclamation.

Also present for the signing was Commissioner Tom Fealy, along with Lewis County Clerk Mary Lou Myers.

The CROP Walk will raise funds for international hunger relief with a portion of the funds remaining in Lewis County to assist the Our Neighbor outreach

Walk participants will gather at the Lewis County Park at 9 a.m. for registration on Oct. 5 and begin the walk at 10 a.m. There is a two-mile “short walk” route and a 4.5-mile walk route, both of which begin and end at the park. Walkers are asked to get sponsors for the route. Pizza will be served to participants at after the walk.

The walk route will include a trip to the Our Neighbor Outreach Center where walkers will drop off cans of non-perishable food they have collected.

Last year the Lewis County CROP Walk raised money for hunger relief and 25 percent of that total went to Our Neighbor Outreach Center in Weston.
